70 Million by Hold Your Horses ! from L'Ogre on Vimeo.
Seth just showed me this music video, which is basically an art historian's dream! We need more people to make art history alive, available to the masses, like this band, Hold Your Horses! does.
I can not vouch for the music but the visual is out of this world...all my favorite artists get a nod!
ReplyDeleteOMG!
ReplyDeleteWe need a 70 million version that does for the religion historian what this does for the art historian. Seems to me that this invites conversation and engagement with some of the most important pieces of art in the world which is at the heart of our meaning making.
I imagine there would be plenty of art historians who would think this is a travesty just as many religious people would think doing this to religious images, icons, and symbols would be heresy. Is there something about the very quality of accessibility yet alone mashing and mixing that authorities abhor?
Art and religion are two of our most important meaning making activities and both seem to have become so complex especially from the critics/experts perspective. Creed and dogma in religion and jargon in art history so often block our experience almost as if the job to get done by theologians and art critics is to frighten people, infantilize people, or simply make them feel stupid. Why have simplicity, accessibility, and usability seem to become the enemy of art and religion?
Gabriella, I have one request: Can you please, please, please list the art pieces and artists that are referenced to in this video? I promise between now and when you return (and I can't wait to see you!) that I will learn something about every single piece!
Wow...way cool!
